Home is the Center of Life

“The reason your work is so important is because home is the center of life” — Matthew Desmond, September 22nd, 2021

Building awareness, bringing educational resources, and dialogue to you is an important part of the work at the heart of our efforts at Lotus Campaign.  With so much “noise” in the spaces around homelessness, the eviction moratorium, and housing affordability it can be a daunting task to identify reliable resources.

Last week, we hosted an education event featuring a speaker and panel of local leaders from different sectors of the community who are not typically called together for conversation.  This type of approach is symbolic of our business model – breaking down barriers between unlikely allies to be part of the solution.

Lotus Campaign is a nonprofit organization that was founded in July of 2018 to reimagine solutions to homelessness in America. Our mission is to increase the availability of housing for people experiencing homelessness by bringing together the for-profit real estate and investment communities (think landlords of apartment complexes and the folks involved in financing real estate development) and the nonprofit social services sectors (think about organizations providing support programs) to create scalable solutions and lasting impact.  In three years, we have a proof of concept – our Landlord Participation Program has helped provide housing for over 340 individuals and families and partnerships with 3 social services organizations and 5 for-profit landlords representing over 18 residential communities.

We invite you to watch, for the first time or as a repeat viewing, the recording of last week’s conversation featuring Matthew Desmond, Professor of Sociology at Princeton University and author of Evicted, Poverty and Profit in the American City and community leaders Donald Jonas, AVP for Social Strategy and Impact with Atrium Health; Carol Hardison, CEO of Crisis Assistance Ministry; Bill Green, Principal and CFO of Ginkgo Residential; and Chef Samone Lett, Food Network Star Finalist and owner of Red Door Events & Catering.

We offer the following suggestions to deepen your own personal engagement as part of the solution in the crisis of homelessness:
